John says:

The first batch of these were 9V-powered and made on a cake bread board rather than a circuit board. As you can see in the pictures, this is one of those early models. It is in excellent condition over-all, only missing the american flag sticker that once adorned the back.

I don't think I have the original box, but I am still looking. This pedal came over from our former location, and the box might turn up. No guarantees, but if I find it, I'll get it to you.

They say:

The Prescription Electronics Experience is a boutique, Jimi Hendrix-inspired octave fuzz pedal known for its thick, gnarly fuzz, footswitchable octave-up, and psychedelic "swell" effect (like a slow attack/backwards sound), all controlled by Vol, Tone, Sustain, and Swell knobs, with guitar volume interaction contributing to its wide dynamic range. It's a highly sought-after pedal for players wanting authentic vintage fuzz and psychedelic textures, requiring experimentation for its full potential.

The Experience pedal was designed and built by Jack Brossart from 1993-2014, drawing inspiration from the groundbreaking tones of the late 60’s, specifically those of Jimi Hendrix but also Yardbirds-era Jimmy Page and Peter Green. These pedals found favour with artists such as Robert Quine, Doyle Bramhall II and Eric Johnson, and have enjoyed a cult following amongst pedal enthusiasts.

How It Works (Controls & Switches):

Three Modes (footswitches):  Fuzz, Octave (Octavia-style), and Swell

  • Fuzz Switch: Must be on for any mode to work.
  • Octave Switch: Enables octave-up tones and the swell feature.
  • Swell Switch: When all three switches are on, it activates the swell.

Knob Controls:

  • Volume
  • Tone (bass/treble boost)
  • Sustain (fuzz thickness/length)
  • Swell (adjusts swell volume).

Swell Effect:  Achieved by turning off the note's initial attack, creating a backward or slow-fade sound, especially with the fuzz and octave engaged.
Interaction:  Highly responsive to guitar's volume and tone knobs for dynamic changes, not just a simple on/off pedal.
Unique Look:  Hand-painted "swirl" finish.
